Lost beings, the historically damned, travel through the night in a mix of parade and procession. Escaping the mists of time, they come back to life, conjure up human comedy anew and perform a macabre dance of fascinating beauty. This metaphysical saraband makes tangible the long line of creatures from Hieronymus Bosch to Francis Bacon. Between this life and the afterworld, reality and fiction, theatre and dance, Les Arrière-Mondes creates images of carnivalesque eeriness and dark, baroque beauty, in which the mystery of our present unwittingly reveals itself.
Nicole Mossoux and Patrick Bonté have been major figures in European theatre for years. Their productions combine movement, dance and music to create their own visual language. In their work, they aim to share their discomfort with the audience, distort proportions and shed light on the moment when humour and anxiety meet. Cie Mossoux-Bonté’s productions are at the crossroads of dance and theatre. They involve an unsettling combination of alienation and familiarity, resulting in enigmatic dream worlds that fascinate audiences.
